Major Projects

We will complete two research projects, one during each semester.  The first semester will be a mini-research, persuasive paper.  During the second semester, we will complete a multigenre paper.  These have been quite popular during the last 7 years and I will share examples from past students with you before we begin.

First Semester:

Banned Books Paper

Banned Books week is Sept. 26-October 2, 2004.  We will be working on a persuasive paper arguing for or against the banning of certain books.  Also, Mrs. Pace, the new librarian, will present tips on researching via the internet and library sources before you begin.  The prompt is in the style of the new SAT essay question to help you practice that format as well.

Angles of Vision Paper

I will conduct several 'show versus tell' lessons before assigning this paper.  Then, you'll be assigned to visit and describe a place from two different viewpoints.  Following your descriptions, you'll write an analysis of your writing.  This assignment has been extremely well-received by students in the past, and I hope you'll enjoy it too.

Second Semester:  Multigenre Paper

This is approximately a five-week project.  After choosing a topic of interest, you will write in creative genres to display your research.  Several new web pages explain this topic in full.
