Minor Projects

Essay Revisions:

Each time you write an in-class essay, you will be given the option to revise that essay for one letter grade higher.  (In other words, if it's a 40-point essay, you may revise for 4 additional points.)  Plan some time into your week to visit the writing lab, or make an appointment with Mrs. Bush.  Then, begin working on the changes noted in your comments.  Take your initial revision to an English teacher for further instructions and to verify that you understood the comments and applied them correctly.  Finally, complete a Revision Sheet and submit all of your drafts with your newest essay on top of all previous drafts.

Quotations Assignment:

I assembled a list of links to assist you with your introductory assignment.  Remember that your quotation needs to represent an important quality about you, and it needs to be by an American author or historical figure.

I would start at Bartleby's.  John Bartlett is well-known for familiar quotations and you can search an online version of his reference book by author or subject.  I had the best luck using the search feature on that page.  Search for the key word you hope to have on your “Successory”.  The search feature also allows you to search other works of collected quotations.

I also liked the Quoteland website because there’s a huge list of topics and then you can click on ones that appeal to you and see if any of the quotes interest you.

This is a huge quote website with links to everything you can imagine.  It was so big that I had trouble finding what I was looking for though.

Also arranged by subject, this quotationspage seemed useful for this assignment

The top of famous-quotations has many links to quote pages.  It even has an extensive list of author quotes, strangely alphabetized by first name. I was annoyed by the many pop up ads while I was trying to work, but I guess they have to pay for the site somehow.

Good luck on this project.  I can't wait to see what you create!
