PLAN Test - Solon students take this test in their sophomore year. The feedback that you received from taking this test is useful for guiding your study for areas of weakness to concentrate on before taking your ACT test. |

PSAT Test - Solon students usually take this test in October of their sophomore and junior years. The sophomore test is truly a practice test. The junior test is a practice test for most students, although this is the qualifying test for National Merit Scholars. It is very similar to the SAT test, except it has an extra "grammar" section. We will review for this test in English class. After this test, you will receive an evaluation notifying which questions you answered correctly and incorrectly. You can also review this packet and the test booklet to find areas for improvement. |
Most Solon students begin taking the ACT and SAT in the spring of their junior year. Many colleges will take either score, so it's recommended that you take both tests so you can submit your higher score. You can register to take either test online or with forms available in the guidance office.

SAT Test - This is considered to be a reasoning test. I find that the English section relies heavily on vocabulary, some of which we will cover in class. You may also want to supplement your study with online resources, practice books, or a class. Border's has a whole section on Test Prep. My recommendation is to find books with real past tests and/or with vocabulary grouped according to definition. (This seems to be a new trend. It also seems more practical to learn the nuances between similar words than just a big list in alphabetical order.) |

ACT Test - This test measures your knowledge, understanding and skills in English (grammar), Math, Reading and Science. This test is changing in 2004-2005 and will include a writing sample. The ACT website says that the writing sample will be optional, but I think that's more of your choice college's option than your own. |
I have provided two additional pages on these weighty, junior-year tests. One page provides links to the official website for each test and test prep materials for both tests. The other webpage provides tips for studying for and for taking each test. Good Luck!
