| Your presentation will be worth 75 points.
You should not read
your paper to us, although you may want to include important points from it
in your speech.
|
 | Content – Provide the most important aspects of your author’s writing
life as you expect it may be relevant to classmates who could encounter
your author on the AP exam. Focus on their writing content, language and
style. You may need to provide details from his or her life to explain
the content of his or her writings, but the emphasis should be on the
writing. Your presentation may be interactive (you give the class a task
to complete). The most important goal for you to achieve is the audience
comes away with an understanding of your author’s purpose and style.

 | Handout – Make a handout that will provide the key information about
your author’s life and writing (content and style) to the class. It
should only be one page long (front and back), and visually attractive,
but it should include most of the following items: author’s name,
author’s picture (you should cite the source), list of author’s (main?)
works, typical genre, several of the most important details you want the
class to remember about your author, lifespan of the author (period of
writing?), and perhaps some memorable or illustrative (of style or
content) quotes. The copy may be jazzed up with computer graphics or
relevant clip art. I will make black and white copies for the entire AP
English Language class if you provide me with a pristine copy 24 hours
before your presentation. |
|
 | Delivery – Are you well prepared? Do you seem confident? Do you
avoid self-deprecating comments? Are you comfortable answering questions
from your classmates? Are you able to stay within a 10-15 minute
timeline? Posture? Physical balance? Vocabulary? Volume? Eye
contact? Attire? (Plan to dress up—no tennis shoes, no jeans.) |
|
|
| |
 | FYI – There will be a quiz over all 23 authors after the
presentations. You will receive handouts from all of the authors studied
in AP English. If you make your own copies, you need 24 copies (one for
meJ). |
